Dynamos seek to retain Chibuku title

THE 2024 Chibuku Super Cup final between Ngezi Platinum Stars and defending champions Dynamos will on Saturday bring the curtain down on the domestic football season.

The match, a repeat of last season’s final, will be played at Rufaro Stadium in Harare and entry tickets are pegged at $3 for the Rest of the Ground, $5 for the Grand Stand and $10 for the lower VIP.

Popular sungura muso, Alick Macheso will perform before the game to entertain the fans. The winner will represent Zimbabwe in the 2025/26 Caf Confederation Cup next year.

Dynamos won last year’s final 2-0 against Ngezi Platinum Stars. Dynamos fans are optimistic that their team will get a victory against the Mhondoro-based platinum miners.

Cassius Deredza, a DeMbare fan, said: “We’re thrilled about the upcoming game on Saturday. Winning back-to-back Chibuku Cup trophies would be an incredible achievement and we’re confident our team can maintain their winning momentum.”

Mai Sulu, another Bulawayo based Dynamos fan, predicted a 2-1 win for her team.

“I hope the management sorts out the issues with player payments as soon as possible. We don’t want any distractions or low morale affecting our boys on the pitch.”

Ganizani Zigwa said: “The game on Saturday is coming at the right time as the wounds are still fresh from our defeat to Ngezi about a week ago. It’s a different ball game now, as stakes are high, and we look beyond this final game.”

Before the final, eyes will be on the Soccer Stars of the Year selection, which will take place today with a panel of journalists, club coaches and captains voting for the 11 best players of the season.

Simba Bhora, who were crowned champions, are expected to dominate the selection, providing at least three players.

Their back-three of Blessing “Bisto” Moyo, Webster Tafa, and Isheanesu Mauchi were instrumental in their title-winning campaign. Other contenders for the calendar include Dynamos’ vice-captain Emmanuel Jalai, FC Platinum’s Brian Banda and ZPC Kariba’s Boid Mutukure.

The goalkeeper of the year award is a two-horse race between Chicken Inn’s Donovan Bernard and Nelson Chadya of Ngezi Platinum Stars. — @innocentskizo
