Dzivarasekwa 2 win Harare Copa Coca-Cola

Dzivarasekwa turned on the power, and did just enough to get the win they wanted, as they battled to a 2-1 victory that gave them the ticket to Victoria Falls.
It meant there was heart-break for Churchill, who had been hoping to make a big impression by winning this tournament, and came into the provincial finals brimming with confidence.
Churchill are renowned for producing a clutch of prominent sportsmen, including cricket star Tatenda Taibu who walked away from the game this week, and a number of footballers who went on to make a mark in the country.
Glen View 1 will represent Harare in the girls’ national finals after thrashing Malbereign 5-0 in a one-sided final. They will join Vainona, who are the defending champions, at the national finals.
In Bulawayo, Luveve booked their place at the national finals after edging Gifford 2-1 to win the boys’ provincial title. Masotsha grabbed the girls’ ticket with a slender 1-0 win over Nkulumane as both the boys and girls’ finals produced close contests.
Marange will represent Manicaland province in Victoria Falls after edging Nedziwe 1-0 while Goko grabbed the province’s girls’ ticket following a 1-0 win over Rukweza.
Centenary were on fire, hammering Kondo 4-0 in the final in Mashonaland Central to win the boys’ ticket to Victoria Falls while Mutondo thrashed Chidembo 3-0 to be crowned the girls’ provincial champions.
Mzingwane were the winners in the boys’ section in Matabeleland South after a 2-0 victory over Manama while Selonga powered to a 1-0 win over Mzimuli to win the girls’ ticket to Victoria Falls.
Pamushana, who have emerged as one of the top schools’ teams in recent years, edged Gutu 1-0 to win the boys’ ticket to Victoria Falls from Masvingo.
The girls’ provincial finals will be held today. Midlands will be represented by Chiodzwa who won the boys’ title after a dramatic 3-2 win, after a penalty shootout, over Mupungu.
A lot was expected from hosts Mandava High School who even roped in Shabanie coach, Luke Masomere, to help them with the preparations.
But, on the day, it was Chiodzwa’s star that shined brightest. Matiningure took honours in the girls’ section after edging Cheziya 1-0.
Mutoko High are the champions in Mashonaland East while Kambarani edged St Barnabas 2-1 to grab the girls’ ticket. Mashonaland West will hold its provincial finals today.
Meanwhile, Mhondora-Mubaira legislator, Sylvester Nguni, has urged parents to support sporting activities in schools to ensure pupils fulfil their potential.
Officially opening the 2012 National Association of Primary Heads Mashonaland West provincial ball games in Mhondoro on Thursday, Nguni said parents should compliment Government efforts in developing sporting activities in the country.
“Many people have made succesful lives from sporting activities and our children should not be an exception. Let us work with school authorities in supporting the activities because they might shape the future of our children. One might not be talented academically but might have a strength in a certain sporting discpline. That means that person should be supported and the support begins with you parents,” he said.
Nguni, who is also Minister of State in Vice President Mujuru’s office, said engaging in sporting activities was also a way of uniting people.
“The ball games we are having brings us together as a family and that mentality of unity should continue. Besides uniting the children and teachers, these games can contribute meaningfully to the children’s health,” he said.
The games, that are being played over three days, brought together teams from 15 districts in Mashonaland West province and they participated in more than six disciplines that included soccer, volleyball, netball and chess.
The winners will represent the province at the NAPH National finals slated for July 22-25 this year in Mutare.
Mashonaland West NAPH provincial chairman, Kufakunesu Rupere, said they had sent awareness campaign teams into schools to meet authorities and School Development Associations over the financing of sporting activities.
“The major challenge we are having in schools is lack of affiliation towards sports in schools. Parents and SDCs do not want to part with their money because of sports and this is something which is killing games in the country,” he said.
Nguni handed over balls and sporting equipment to the province.
