TRADE unionists have welcomed the Judicial Service Commission (JSC)’s implementation of Phase Two of the Integrated Electronic Case Management System (IECMS) set to be launched next month.
Speaking at a workshop for labour officers and trade unionists held yesterday, secretary general of the Medical Professionals and Allied Workers Union, Tecla Barangwe, said e-filing would help reduce corruption in courts.
“We are very happy to be part of this training where we are being taught about the e-filing system.
“Going digital is a great move since it will reduce corruption in courts because with e-filing, it becomes impossible to have cases where some court papers go missing from a file,” she said.
She said the introduction of e-filing has brought changes in accessing JSC information.
“People can now easily access JSC information without travelling long distances.
“It was difficult for us trade unionists to travel long distances just to obtain a court order,” said Barangwe.
Tendai Makavani, the National Employment Council Brickmaking Industry general secretary, said IECMS was long overdue since the world has gone technological.
“We have learnt a lot from Covid-19. The fact that we did not have digital systems destroyed our work since courts could not be held.
“We welcome this system and we can’t wait for February 1 when Phase Two is implemented,” she said.
