A Harare man appeared in court on a charge of defrauding a company about £5 000 and R16 800.

Munyaradzi Muko-nyora was granted $200 000 bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure yesterday.

He will be back in court on March 27.

The State alleged that Munyaradzi and his accomplices connived to dupe MSC Collections and MSChats Group of Companies represented by their owner, Munyaradzi Chatuka. It is alleged that Mukonyora phoned Nyarai Mlilo, the owner of Kaynash Consultancy who is based in United Kingdom, and told her that someone in the UK owed them (Mukonyora and his accomplices) money.

Allegations are that they wanted to use her bank account to receive the money and upon agreement, they agreed that Mukonyora and his accomplices were to receive the money from Mlilo’s business partner, Joyce Mhlanga, based in Zimbabwe.

It was alleged that they phoned Chatuka purporting to be Mukumba Bus owners.

They informed him that they were referred to him by Mlilo to get assistance settling an offshore account.

They gave him Mlilo’s UK bank account number and a South African bank account number in the name of E J Moyo.

It is alleged that Chatuka used his company’s accounts to transfer money into the two accounts.

Mukonyora told Chatuka that he would get his money in US dollar equivalent to the pounds and rand he had sent.

Chatuka was told to go and collect his money from Mhlanga, but when he got there, he was told that the money had already been collected by Mukonyora and his accomplices.

Chatuka then realised that he had been duped and reported the matter to the police.

Investigations led to Mukonyora’s arrest.

Pardon Dziva appeared for the State.
