Eaglesvale Senior School recently held a tourism and travelling expo at the school to encourage tourism growth in Zimbabwe. The event was graced by Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Muzembi who was impressed with what the children were doing to promote tourism in Zimbabwe. Some of the schools that were represented include Direct Contact High School, High Achievers College and Heritage High School.
The expo saw students taking part in different tourism departments that helps in the development of the sector.
Previously the school has been to Victoria Falls and Elephant hills to run a project as part of their practicals on the subject.
The school introduced the subject four years ago and it has made great strides in its development leading to the mini expo.
Some students who spoke to CLS said it was a good initiative and will go a long way in developing their studies. .
Takunda Machera a student from Eaglesvale who won the best public speaker in Africa recited an exciting poem “Who is fooling who.”
“My poem is about how people are fooling themselves and those around them in today’s world,” he said.
Tanyaradzwa Lisa Mafaruse from Direct Contact said she was happy to be part of such an educative programme which was an eye opener with information they never knew. She said that she was happy to be part of such an educative programme.
She brings out the idea of how people are fooling themselves and those around them in today’s world.
Students were encouraged to be more active in upgrading the sector through having more of these expos as they will help the ministry’s goal of making it one of the main contributors of the country’s Gross Domestic Product.
Leader of the group at Eaglesvale Solomon Mashonganyika said they felt honoured by the number of people who turned up for the expo.
“It was a thrilling and exciting event and we have learnt a lot from all the organisations that were represented here and we hope other schools will adopt this so it will not be looked down upon as it contributes towards building a better Zimbabwe tomorrow.”
Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe and the Department of National Parks and Wildlife Management also attended the expo.
