The runner, who has been based in South Africa where he won top races, was not even 100 percent fit after injuring himself in August last year but was still good enough to win comfortably.
Tomorrow, the distance in the feature race will be 1600m but it’s not likely to cause problems for Earl of Surrey who once again gets the services of jockey Gavin Lerena and a total mass of 63kgs.
Earl of Surrey is number one on the card for the sprint with US$9 200 in stakes.
Syracuse could offer Earl of Surrey a challenge but is still smarting from the defeat two weeks ago as Marthinus Mienie takes over the irons from Railton Peters.
As a three-year-old, Syracuse won the Guineas Trial over 1600m and could be hoping to repeat the fine form over the same distance some four years down the lane.
In its last run over the same distance, Syracuse lost to Gracie Jones who will have Peters on board. The Smartly Jones mare has won its last two events over 1600m relegating Splendid Tambur and Got Personality respectively.
Gracie Jones carries a galloping weight of 53kg and to although she is in receipt of 10kgs from Earl Of Surrey and a very talented mare in her own right, the class of Earl Of Surrey should be too much for her.
Harris also saddles in Agent Crush (8) and Subscribe (10) who is last on the race card.
Tapiwa Manxusa, who once tried his hand in training the equine athletes, has once again decided to ride for Harris as he takes Dinathus (9).
Kirk Swanson sends out the game and consistent Captain’s Tiger for his second run this season and should now be fit to give the Harris yard challenge.
With Quinton Riddle on board, this 5-year-old gelding is in with a fighting chance to run into the minor money.
The race card opens with Toyota Corolla Maiden Juveniles, open to two-year-olds and will be competed over 1000m.
