THE Eastern Region Soccer League leadership are working flat out to ensure that their stadiums are in good shape to host the Division One matches.

The league got underway last week.

ERSL representative, Mollen Makumbe, said they had a good start which is pointing to an interesting season.

“The league had a very good start, away teams posted some crucial wins,” said Makumbe.

“We are working, under the leadership of regional chairman (Davison Muchena), to have teams spread across all the districts.

“We are happy to have teams in Rusape and Chimanimani as part of the initiative.

“We are also looking forward to improving our stadia, promoting youths to play in first teams, improving game management, especially on arrival at venues, and respecting referees’ decisions.” Manica Diamonds Juniors are currently topping the league on superior goal difference after clobbering Renco Mine 4 – 0.

On Saturday they will face FC Hunters.

Ambitious club FC Wangu Mazodze also registered a 2-0 win against FC Hunters and they are away to Chiredzi Stars.

JM Busha, Buffaloes, Tenax, Midway, Surrey, and Mutare City Rovers also managed to register wins on the opening day.
