JOKE was IN BAD TASTE

CHINHOYI Municipality spokesperson, Tichaona Mlauzi, has said the April Fools’ Day joke, about a vagrant drowning in one of Council’s waterworks, was in bad taste.

A message saying Chinhoyi’s water shortage was being caused by a decomposing body inside the Council’s waterworks has been doing the rounds on social media.

Mlauzi said this was all false and a joke in very bad taste.

“I think someone wanted to make an April Fools’ joke, but it was in bad taste.

“We have not had any deaths at our waterworks plant.

“If there had been a death at the plant, it would have been reported to the police,” said Mlauzi.

He added:

“We are law abiding citizens and we report such issues to the police for them to take action.”

Mlauzi said there was no way that the local authority could have removed the body given that it would have been the duty of the police to do so.

“It’s very unfortunate that the so-called joke has brought our municipality to the fore for the wrong reasons,” said Mlauzi.
