ECD teacher training intensifies

Government has intensified training of Early Childhood Development teachers with a target of 11 000 teachers by 2018.
Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Olivia Muchena told delegates attending the launch of the Capacity Development Programme for teachers in Harare last week that all colleges had been tasked to enrol at least 200 ECD trainee teachers for the next five years.

Minister Muchena said that was in line with the requirements of the Government’s economic blueprint, Zim-Asset, on human capital    development.

“In response to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s request for more ECD teachers, my ministry is enrolling an average of 200 EDC teacher trainees per teachers’ college for the next five years, making a total of 11 250 ECD teachers by 2018,” she said.
