Econet Ai, a subsidiary of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, has embarked on a massive recruitment of more than 100 engineers to be deployed to drive its Ai initiatives.
The engineers, whose minimum qualifications are a university degree, will be the largest cohort of engineers recruited by one company in Zimbabwe’s recent history.
The company said the recruitment was only the beginning of the implementation of its broader AI strategy in Zimbabwe, adding that it had so far received applications from engineers within Zimbabwe as well as many others working outside the country.
It said the engineers will receive intensive training in Ai ahead of being deployed to work in different areas of Ai — including product development and customer support.
The company said it was already working with businesses and organizations across Zimbabwe to help speed up their adoption of Ai solutions and improve their business processes and operations.
“Some of the engineers will be deployed within these companies to act as advisors, which is why Econet Ai needs so many engineers right now,” the company said.
Econet Ai CEO Mr Navdeep Kapur confirmed the recruitment, saying the company is looking for Zimbabwean engineers that have majored in fields such as electrical engineering, electronics, computer science and robotics — including those with honors degrees or post graduate Masters and PhD qualifications.
“We are already currently in the process of onboarding over 70 positions, and we will need more. Even if we don’t hire some now, we want them on file as we are growing very rapidly,” Mr Kapur said.
He said the focus at the moment was on engineers who will help develop the products “but soon other positions will emerge”.
