armed robbers on Tuesday believed to have been behind the spate of such crimes. Police recovered 15 Econet booster batteries.
According to police, some security guards manning these boosters were attacked and killed.
Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector James Sabau, last week confirmed the arrests and said investigations were still in progress.
He said the six suspects Charles Manyawi (39), Edmore Nyabeza (25) all of Kuwadzana 5, Paul Gwenzi (28), Amos Chihokoyo (23), Paul Zimbudzana (age not given) all of Glenara and Ronald Mukwaniri (33) of Kuwadzana Extension were still in custody as of last Friday.
They are expected to appear in court soon once the CID Homicide section has completed investigations.
“The suspects were arrested by a policeman from Dzivarasekwa who was carrying out investigations after there was a report of theft of diesel at an Econet booster in the area,” Insp Sabau said.
The six led to the recovering of the 15 batteries, a torch and five litres of diesel. Insp Sabau said investigations revealed that some of the diesel and batteries were stolen at the company’s boosters in Dzivarasekwa, Marlborough, Kuwadzana and Norton among others.
“Information had it that some Econet engineers are also involved in these criminal activities and were reported to have been partnering with these criminals,” he said.
Insp Sabau could not reveal the number of security guards murdered.
