ED woos Manicaland

President Mnangagwa is today expected to address a capacity crowd at Mutare Aerodrome. This is the President’s second campaign visit to the eastern border city, which is also Manicaland’s provincial capital. The rally was switched from the previous venue, Sakubva Stadium, to Mutare Aerodrome due to space constraints as the stadium can only accommodate 15 000 people, which organisers feel is too small for the bumper crowd that is expected.

Zanu-PF Manicaland spokesman Cde Kenneth Saruchera yesterday said everything was in place for today’s rally.
“We are ready for the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and First Secretary of our party,” he said. “We want the people of Manicaland to come in their thousands to meet the President. We want to give him a rousing welcome.

“We want him to hear the message that Manicaland is ready for victory in the July 30 elections.”
Cde Saruchera said Manicaland was welcoming a man who demonstrated that the province had a place in his heart – a man who had resuscitated the Zimunya-Marange Community Share Ownership Trust, a move that had since brought $5 million to the people, with promises for further allocations.

He applauded President Mnangagwa for touring Manicaland’s industries to see for himself the situation on the ground before committing to revive the factories.

Cde Saruchera said Zanu-PF was confident of winning all the 26 constituencies in the province.
“Our candidates are working hard on the ground, connecting with communities and, most importantly, the electorate is buying into our campaign message,” he said.
