BULAWAYO primary schools are set to compete in the second edition of the Edgars Under-14 Cricket Championship from October 17-18.

The tournament, staged by Tigers Cricket Academy in conjunction with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, will be played at six venues, which include Magwegwe, Mtshingwe, Baines, Helemu, Mafakela and Gampu Primary schools.

Tigers Cricket Academy chief executive officer Tawanda Muchechete said the winning school would represent the province in a national tournament to be staged at Bulawayo Athletic Club on October 19.

“Josiah Chinamano Primary School were crowned champions last year and it remains to be seen if they are going to defend their title. We are still receiving some confirmations from other schools and so far I have over 12 teams. We are looking forward to having some competitive games because we have invited more schools than last year,” said
Muchechete.

The games will be played on a knockout format, with the winning team walking away with a floating trophy, while the second and third-placed teams will walk away with shields.

The tournament is also sponsored by Arenel and CA Grant International Sports Shop.
