EDITORIAL COMMENT: Learn from Tina Turner, Mel B

Mel B’s glowing tribute to Tina Turner as a fighter against domestic violence is a powerful reminder that victims of abuse often suffer in silence.

It takes a lot of courage to open up about such issues, and the healing process can take a long time.

However, it’s important that influential women speak out against domestic violence and encourage others to do the same.

Love is not worth dying for, and toxic situations should be avoided at all costs.

Unfortunately, many women continue to suffer abuse behind closed doors, and this problem is particularly prevalent among young couples.

We must all continue to work towards ending gender-based violence and encouraging victims to speak out.

Celebrities and influential women have a unique platform to help raise awareness of these issues, and they should use it to fight domestic violence.

It’s uncommon for well-up people to open up about abuse they suffered at some point.

It takes a lot of guts and courage to share such issues.

A victim of domestic violence at the hands of her ex-husband Ike Turner, Tina, empowered fellow influential women to embrace the fight and raise more awareness.

According to Mel B, a number of female celebrities are dying in silence for fear of the unknown in tackling domestic abuse.

The Spice Girl, whose real name is Melanie Brown, believes more women should open up and save others.

Tina Turner, who died aged 83 at her Switzerland home, inspired Mel B and other women to stand up against domestic violence.

In a recent BBC Radio 4 interview, Mel B saluted Tina for being honest in sharing her views on domestic violence.

She noted that her advice carried weight since it came from one of the world’s most recognisable women.

In Zimbabwe, there are many wife-bashers who continue to abuse women behind closed doors and portray fake personalities in public.

A lot of women have been suffering abuse for decades, but choose to remain silent to maintain the family’s so-called dignity.

One would think that every generation learns from the one before it, but domestic abuse seems to be rampant among young couples, with the women choosing to keep up appearances compared to their happiness.

It’s really unfortunate that sometimes such cases end in tragedy which could have been prevented had the women opened up from the beginning.

The problem is that some of these women who suffer domestic abuse in silence choose to ignore the red flags because they want to focus on the good in their lovers. Unfortunately, it always costs them later.

Gender-based violence (GBV) is the new cancer that world leaders must grapple with.

Despite all efforts being made to fight GBV, it seems we still have victims concealing abuse to safeguard their marriages.

To our celebrities, learn from Tina Turner and Mel B to fight domestic violence.
