ZIMBABWEAN schoolteachers have always been ranked among the best in the world.
To them, teaching is a calling and not an employment opportunity they got by default.
That’s why Zimbabwean schoolteachers are on demand in many countries around the world because of their sheer hard work and the expertise they have in abundance.
Their passion has been driving them to excel no matter the challenges which they confront when it comes to execution of their duties.
In Wednesday’s issue, we ran the story of Jobert Ngwenya, a Bulawayo-based schoolteacher who was nominated for the 2022 Accountability lab Integrity Icon award.
The nomination alone is a triumph for Zimbabwean schoolteachers who are all shining examples of professionalism when it comes to this profession.
It is an acknowledgement that our teachers belong to a class of the very highest order, and we are all proud of that.
After all, we are products of their industry, dedication and expertise.
The international award, which Ngwenya has been lined up for, an award, which honours teachers who display the highest levels of integrity and make icons out of ordinary people.
Ngwenya teaches Entrepreneurship as well as advocating for the girl child’s rights.
He has achieved a 100 percent pass rate between 2012 and 2019, a clear indication that he is not an ordinary school teacher.
This has made him a special professional, who has gone out of his way to transform the lives of scores of people who have come through his path.
Ngwenya loves his work with a passion as he puts his students’ priorities first.
Whether he wins the award or not is not important.
The nomination alone shows he has demonstrated the highest level of professionalism required of Zimbabwean teachers.
Our teachers have made themselves special and unique due to their highest level of professionalism, honesty and hard work.
These are the kind of teachers the country needs at a time when we have a big chunk of our youths losing the plot due to drug and substance abuse.
Ngwenya represents the kind of teachers we want and every nation yearns for and we are blessed that we have such a special breed among us.
Judging by the results that he has produced, Ngwenya has shown us that, if one dedicates himself or herself to a cause, nothing is impossible.
Our teachers deserve respect as they are nurturing future leaders.
We need to keep empowering them with incentives to make them happy.
Teachers have churned out most of the revered professionals in the world who are now earning far better than them.
We are a country which has always valued education and that is why we invest a lot into it because we know its power.
It’s good that our grand efforts as a country are now being realised and the world is seeing that we have some of the best teachers on the globe.
