RAPPER Holy Ten dropped a bombshell at the weekend when he declared he was bigger than the National Arts Merits Awards.
He also launched a scathing attack on National Arts Council of Zimbabwe CEO Napoleon Nyanhi.
He bragged about being richer than Nyanhi and called for the NACZ CEO to resign.
Holy Ten was not happy that his work last year, which he felt pushed the likes of Jah Prayzah and Winky D into the shade, should have been rewarded at the NAMA ceremony which was held on Friday night in Harare.
He produced an album that has hit songs, including Ndotokuda and Kilimanjaro last year, but Holy Ten did not get even a single NAMA nomination.
In an explosive outburst on Instagram, Holy Ten expressed his frustration with the NAMA organisers for failing to recognise his contributions to the Zimbabwean music scene.
He said he felt he did more than Jah Prayzah and Winky D last year and he was surprised that all his work, which has been endorsed by the fans, was not considered for the NAMA gongs.
The rapper later did an instagram live to further express his frustrations. He said he was hurt and launched a savage attack on Nyanhi.
We understand Holy Ten’s anger and we sympathise with him.
However, we don’t agree with the way he has chosen to release his anger.
He reminds us, in a way, of Real Madrid who reacted to the failure by their star Vinicius Junior to win the Ballon d’Or by boycotting the awards.
The Ballon d’Or was won by Manchester City midfielder Rodri.
Real Madrid’s decision to boycott the Ballon d’Or function was criticised by many people, including La Liga boss Javier Tebas.
Tevas accused the club of showing “a lack of class.”
He said they should have shown up to the ceremony instead of questioning France Football’s process, which is transparent with 100 journalists voting.
Tebas said he did not know where Real Madrid were headed, given their lack of class, which he said was also evident in Spain.
Ironically Tebas is a Real Madrid fan.
He said it was important for Real Madrid to respect the key values of the club and ensure that they always act like gentlemen and shake hands with their opponents even on the occasions that they lose. Ironically, Real Madrid snubbed a ceremony where they were recognised as the Club of the Season and Carlo Ancelotti was named Coach of the Year.
We can say just the same for Holy Ten.
There is something called class and it is worth respecting and exhibiting. This means that even when you lose, in controversial circumstances, you need to show respect for the process.
There was no need for him to bring Jay Prayzah and Winky D into his attacks on the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe.
There was no need for him to brag that he was richer than NACZ CEO Nyanhi.
There was no need for the drama he created.
