SUNGURA musician Peter Moyo is back in the headlines after a bar brawl with an unidentified woman outside a popular joint in Harare at the weekend.
It is not clear what triggered the fight.
A witness told H-Metro the woman provoked the musician into a war of words which later turned into a fist fight.
The witness said the woman was the one who slapped Peter first and at the beginning he maintained his cool.
However, Peter then failed to control himself when the attacks from the woman became relentless and he ended up fighting back.
We could not upload the videos of the fight on our social media platforms because we could have violated the Facebook regulations which bar users from posting images which promote violence.
There is a part of the video when Peter overpowers the woman and pins her down while attacking her with a flurry of blows.
We are not sure what the relationship between Peter and the woman is or whether she was just a rogue fan.
The incident has split opinion among our readers with some saying Peter was defending himself while others have been condemning him.
Arnold Tinaye Jacob said Peter was right to react because if he had not done that there was a possibility he would have been seriously injured in the attack.
Leeroy Wags said Peter was the victim in this incident and he did not agree with those who were labelling this as an attack on women.
He said women do not have the licence to stab, kill and do whatever they want and any other man, in Peter’s shoes, would have reacted the way the musician did.
Yes, when one looks at the video closely, it gets clear that Peter was provoked and the woman was the one who attacked him first.
It’s also true that Peter appears to have tried, as much as he could, to avoid reacting with a physical attack on the woman.
But, this does not change the fact that Peter should simply have walked away even after he had been attacked.
He is a celebrity and he has everything to lose.
The woman has nothing to lose and that is why she didn’t care about the consequences of her actions.
She doesn’t even have a name which we know and no one is talking about her.
Everyone is talking about Peter because he is the one we all know and he is the one who makes headlines.
The best way to respond for him was to simply walk away despite the pounding he was receiving from the enraged woman.
Peter was never going to win this once he decided to react by using jabs to attack the woman.
As a man, he was always expected to win the fight so there is no victory for him to talk about.
His problem is that his reputation would be soiled, the moment he decided to engage in a fight, and that is worse than enduring those slaps from that woman.
