EIGHT Afro-fusion bands, one sungura outfit and one gospel group will battle for the US$15 000 cash prize in the biggest homegrown music talent search in this country.
All the entries are now in for this year’s Chibuku Road To Fame national finals after organisers Delta Corporation completed the preliminary stages over the weekend.
Panhimbe Crew from Masvingo and Mashonaland West’s Boom Jazz are the latest additions after winning their provincial competitions.
The national finals are now slated for November 9, at a venue yet to be announced.
This year’s talent search ran from September 28 under the theme: ‘Bvirarira, TshayiNgoma.’
“Once again, it has been an exciting journey witnessing so much upcoming talent around the country and we look forward to an exciting final on November 9.
“The wave of musical talent makes us proud in our association with aspiring musicians, creating countless success stories along the way.
As always we also had a unique opportunity to connect with and engage consumers during the provincial competitions,” said Delta Corporation marketing director, Irimayi Muzorewa.
Some of the groups that have qualified for the grand final include The Outlaws (Harare), The Fugees (Matabeleland South), The Cousins (Midlands), Shanty Town (Mashonaland Central), Music to Music (Bulawayo), Pilgrims of Christ (Mashonaland East), Vibrant Band (Manicaland) and Kweseka (Matabeleland North).
The talent search is held in collaboration with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) to empower aspiring musicians, recognise and reward their art.
The grand prize will also include a recording contract.
Second and third-placed groups will take home US$10 000 and US$7500.
