Eight suspected drug pushers arrested as police crack the whip on substance abuse

POLICE yesterday, arrested eight suspects in connection with the unlawful possession of drugs.

According to a statement, the eight suspects were found in possession of dagga, crystal meth, and unregistered medicines in Harare and Beitbridge at the beginning of the month.

The arrested suspects include Phakamiseni Dhlamini (41), Ishmael Chikara (35), Linda Jimu (26), Priviledge Muchenje, also known as Ndanatsei Muchenje (39), Sylia Tanyanyiwa (41), Simbarashe Maenzanisi (41), Siphelile Mashamba (33) and Alice Shatirwa (29).

“The arrests led to the recovery of 151 kilogrammes of dagga, 260 x 100ml bottles of Broncleer Syrup, and a yet-to-be-determined quantity of crystal meth. The bulk of the dagga was recovered at Beitbridge Border Post,” said national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi in a statement.

He warned individuals and groups involved in peddling and trafficking drugs that the law would soon catch up with them.

“The public is urged to continue providing information on drug and substance abuse to the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631, WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or to report at any nearest police station,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
