At least eight Zimbabwean organisations will soon benefit from a US$1 million funding from the newly established non-profit foundation – Masana Wa Afrika – which aims at supporting and amplifying African community-based organisations serving children and families.
The small organisations are part of a larger cohort of 115 community-based organisations across 13 African countries that will benefit from the foundation’s support, thanks to Delta Philanthropies and The ELMA Foundation funding.
In a communique, Masana Wa Afrika said they aim to amplify the work of African organisations serving children and families, and the funding will drive meaningful change in the lives of these communities.
Masana wa Afrika board member and Delta Philanthropies board chair, Mrs Tsitsi Masiyiwa, said sustainable development could only be achieved when communities were empowered to lead and drive change from within.
“The organisations supported by the foundation are embedded in the communities they serve, making them expertly placed to design and deliver solutions that work for them. The more support we give them, the greater impact they can achieve,” she said.
Masana wa Afrika director Ruth Mapara said they recognised the inherent potential and resilience of African communities.
“Our foundation is built on the belief that sustainable development can only be achieved when communities are empowered to lead and drive change from within. We are dedicated to providing the necessary support and resources to help African children and communities thrive,” she said.
Some of the organisations supported by Masana Wa Afrika include Chiedza, Chiedza Community Welfare Trust, Child Protection Society, Edward Ndlovu Memorial Trust, Heather Chimhoga Orphan Care, Kidzcan, Children’s Cancer Relief, NZEVE Deaf Centre and Rozaria Memorial Trust.
