Elderly couple fights over sadza

AN elderly woman dragged her husband to court for locking a plate of sadza in their bedroom.

Marita Muyambo appeared before Kwekwe Civil Court Magistrate Mildred Matuvi seeking a protection order against her husband Rhaphias Chiranga.

She told the court her husband had the tendency of denying her food and harassing her in the presence of their grandchildren.

In her application, Muyambo highlighted that her husband was also in the habit of spending the whole night shouting at her.

“This man has a tendency of abusing me. He locks sadza inside the bedroom and sometimes he spends the night shouting at me such that I find it difficult to sleep.

“He switches off electricity in the house and damages property,” said Muyambo.

In response, Chiranga admitted to the accusations. However, he argued that his wife had a tendency of running away from their bedroom, leaving him to sleep alone.

“As you can see, we are elderly people and we have seven grandchildren in the house. We have been staying together peacefully all these years, but the problem started when her prophet accused my sister of witchcraft. She runs away from our bedroom and leaves me to sleep alone when we are supposed to be together, we should be together solving our issues not for her to run away,” he said.

After taking submissions from both parties, the court granted the application for a protection order in favour of Muyambo and ordered Chiranga to desist from abusing his wife.
