ELVIS Chipezeze says he’s “feeling on top of the world” after being crowned Carling Knockout Player of the Tournament at South Africa’s Betway Premier Soccer League awards.

The Warriors goalkeeper was a stand-out performer for Magesi FC last season, and his consistency between the posts has now been recognised with one of the PSL’s top individual honours.

Raised in Gweru, Chipezeze kept an impressive 12 clean sheets in 30 matches across all competitions, despite conceding 31 goals in a campaign where Magesi often found themselves under pressure.

“It just feels good to get such a recognition. I’m grateful to my team’s coaches and teammates. I will keep on working hard and always try to do well for my club,” said the former Chicken Inn shot stopper.

Chipezeze’s form didn’t go unnoticed beyond his club. He was recently named the best goalkeeper of the season by South Africa’s Extra-Time and SoccerZone, leading to a deserved recall to the Zimbabwe national team.

Tawanda Maswanhise

The Betway PSL awards, initially set for June, were delayed due to Mamelodi Sundowns’ involvement in the 2025 Fifa Club World Cup. But when they finally took place, Chipezeze’s name was front and centre.

He was recalled to the Warriors squad earlier this month alongside Germany based midfielder Jonah Fabisch and Belgium based winger Bill Antonio for friendly matches against Burkina Faso and Niger in Morocco.
Although he missed Zimbabwe’s recent World Cup qualifiers, the 34-year-old has reasserted himself as one of the top goalkeepers in South Africa’s top flight.

And Chipezeze isn’t the only Zimbabwean making headlines abroad.
Fellow Warriors international Tawanda Maswanhise has been voted Motherwell’s Player of the Month for July after a red hot start to the Scottish Cup campaign.

Maswanhise, who joined the Scottish side at the start of the season, scored four goals in as many games, starting with a brace against Clyde, then another double against Morton.

“Thank you for voting me Player of the Month and for your support. Hopefully, there will be many more awards to come,” said the striker.
