The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) Director General Aaron Chigona is now a free man after the State failed to put him on trial on allegations of criminal abuse of duty.
Chigona was accused of instructing his juniors to issue an environmental impact assessment to a Chinese company authorising them to engage in a housing project on a wetland without following procedures.
The State had sought to further postpone the matter saying they needed more time to obtain a statement from the environment minister.
This was challenged by Chigona’s lawyer Admire Rubaya who submitted that his client was being inconvenienced by continuously coming to court without progress.
He submitted that his client has been on remand for over a year without trial.
