Emcoz to discuss productivity-based remuneration

He said the discussion comes at a time when industry was faced with unaffordable demands for wage increases from labour with employers wishing to link wage increases to increased productivity.

The two-day business event will be held from 30 to 31 August at Mazvikadei Resort Hotel.

He said productivity was an elusive concept difficult to understand and even more challenging to measure and apply objectively.

“Emcoz representatives on the retrenchment board have noted less than perfect preparation on the part of  employers appearing before it making the case for realistic retrenchment packages difficult to sustain and defend. Emcoz is organising this training workshop to address the shortcomings identified,” he said.

Executives responsible for human resources management and finance policies and the personnel that execute finance policies in companies are expected to attend the event.

Mr Mufukare said participants were expected to receive an overview of the economy, theoretical concepts on productivity as well as discuss how productivity could be applied to different economic sectors.

“At the end of the two-day workshop, the participants will have discussed how to implement impact assessment plans for their sectors as well as developing an action plan policy position for productivity-based remuneration in their sectors,” he said.

Participants will also be taken through the economic landscape in Zimbabwe, productivity as a theoretical concept as well as how the concept could be applied to different sectors of the economy.

Focus will also be on how to conduct an impact assessment study on the likely effects of adopting productivity-based remuneration and to implement productivity-based remuneration.

The employersa’ representative body has observed that the labour market crisis arising from underperformance of Zimbabwe’s economy has resulted in massive retrenchments by local companies over the past few years.

In light of the prevailing economic environment characterised by tight liquidity, cash budgeting and low capacity utilisation in the manufacturing sector, Emcoz has urged local industries to focus on streamlining operations for business sustainability and survival.
