A MERCHANDISING company, Warpack Zimbabwe, allegedly lost US$50 000 to an employee who allegedly received payments from various clients and pocketed the money.
Innocent Stanley Nyahodza, of Kuwadzana Extension, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Isheanesu Matova.
He was released on US$300 bail.
Warpack Zimbabwe Sales and Merchandising Company is being represented by its sales manager, Tanyanyiwa Ray Chamunorwa.
The company specialises in food, health and hygiene products.
Nyahodza’s duties included securing orders from customers, making follow-up on payments and receiving the payments from customers.
The court heard that from last month, Nyahodza received US$50 131,79 from various customers.
These included Munella US$1100, Flick Nik US$11 298, Gudo Mart US$4966, LP Masamvu US1652, Makombe Wholesalers US$15 034, Mighty Stores US$966, People’s Shop US$600, Veterinary Distributors US$3 309 and Boodschap US$1304.
Instead of handing over the cash to his employer, Nyahodza allegedly converted the funds to his own use.
The offence came to light on February 13 when a client from Munella Wholesale contacted the company placing an order for Pain Eeze and Chicky Chilli and was told they needed to clear the US$11 000 balance.
The client indicated they had cleared the balance, which prompted the company to investigate the matter.
Upon further inquiry, the company established that Nyahodza received the US$11 000 in question.
