Empowerment Board lays down the law

Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act Number 14/2007.
The section specifies that Government departments, statutory companies and local authorities should procure at least 50 percent of their goods and services from indigenous Zimbabwean companies with immediate effect.

NIEEB chairman Mr David Chapfika told journalists that the public and stakeholders should comply with this order as indicated in the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act.
“The NIEEB would like to inform the public and various stakeholders that the procurement of goods and services by organisations is to be carried out in compliance with Section 3 (1) of the Indigenisation and Economic

Empowerment Act Number 14/2007 with immediate effect,” said Mr Chapfika.
He indicated that where non-indigenous companies are exceptionally awarded contracts they are required to sub-contract to indigenous companies.

“NIEEB will be working closely with the State Procurement Board to ensure that the law is effectively implemented for the benefit of indigenous Zimbabweans,” he said.

Mr Chapfika also said the NIEEB would be issuing compliance certificates on application periodically to compliant indigenous companies and other affected interest groups. He said the certificates will indicate that a company has fully complied with the Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Act.
According to the board, the applications should be accompanied by details that fully confirm the indigenous aspect of a firm and the application forms can be obtained at the NIEEB offices in Harare.
