EMTHUNZINI Wethemba orphanage were crowned champions of Thembalethu Foundation soccer tournament that was held at Mzilikazi High school on Monday. Emthunzini beat Filabusi 1-0 in the final thanks to a goal from Mduduzi Moyo.

Four orphanage homes, Emthunzini Wethemba, SOS Children’s village, Filabusi and Thembiso took part in the tournament.

Thembalethu Foundation co-ordinator, Mayfield Daka, said such tournaments are important in the community as they empower orphans to nurture their talents and realise their potential.

“As Thembalethu Foundation we realised that these young orphans are being overlooked by the community, that is why we want to help them realise their potential.

“Most of them stop playing soccer when they reach the age of 18 but with this tournament we want to inspire them to strive to make it to the top like some players who are in the Premier League but started from such tournaments,” said Daka.
