English-Brown eyes Students scalp

Bruce Chikuni
WHAWHA midfielder, Calum English-Brown, is confident he will help his teammates to exploit the weaknesses of his former paymasters, Herentals, at the weekend.

The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service side appear to be slowly getting into their groove as they have won three of their past five games.

English-Brown, who is the only white player in the domestic Premiership, had a short stint with the Students last season.

“Our preparations are going on very well and our win against Highlanders has boosted our energy levels. “We have a full strength squad and everyone is confident of a positive result, but we are expecting an intense match.

“You know Herentals like to play with intensity.

“They play a lot of counter attacks, their wing-backs are always up and down and I will be following and, hopefully, I’m going to help the team exploit their weaknesses,” said English-Brown.

He hailed Herentals for leveling the playing field for his career.

“I don’t think I have anything to prove, I’m just going to go and play to the best of my abilities.

“Every game that I play, I play with the mindset of wanting to perform well, I don’t have to put myself under unnecessary pressure that I’m playing against my former club.

“Herentals gave me the experience, which I needed, and it also made my move to WhaWha seem easy because of what I learned there during my time,” said.

He said he had no intentions of leaving WhaWha as he insisted his wish was to help the club to survive relegation.

English-Brown first signed a professional contract with Harare City, at the age of 16 and, as he struggled for game time, he left for Germany.

Upon his return, he joined Herentals, where he only stayed for about six months, before he left to join WhaWha, without playing a competitive match.

Luke Petros’s WhaWha are going into this match knowing a victory will see them move out of the drop-zone, should other teams above them drop points.
