Epworth trio in court Zvikomborero Parafini

THREE suspects from Epworth have been yanked to court for allegedly stealing batteries from Econet network boosters.

Christopher Makamelo, also known as Nyambuya (60), Tinotenda Nathan Madzima (33) and Nosilathi Mahellow Moyo (25) appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Monday and were not asked to plead.

The court was informed that on April 4, the informant, Achbold Chikati, visited an Econet booster located at Zimre Park and found everything intact.

However, on April 21, he was notified that unknown individuals had broken into the facility, using an unknown object to breach the palisade wall.

The trio and their accomplices allegedly stole two Huawei Lithium batteries valued at $2 500, 50 litres of petrol worth $78 and cut off an armoured cable.

In a separate incident on the same day, another informant, Butau Lxon, while patrolling along Zime Way, noticed that the booster lights were not flashing. Upon investigation, he discovered that thieves had broken through the burglar bars and stolen a Lithium battery valued at $2 500 and 80 litres of diesel worth $124.

Detectives from CID Homicide received information implicating Makamelo in the thefts, claiming he had been spotted in Jacha Epworth.

Acting on this intelligence, police apprehended him and he subsequently implicated his accomplices. Their arrest involved a shootout with the police.
