Equina targets third major

AFTER breaking the Castle Tankard’s 16-year-wait for a filly to win the race and winning the OK Grand Challenge, Equina is expected to continue with her fine form in tomorrow’s Republic Cup at Borrowdale.
The five-year-old filly remains the favourite in the 1 900m race with a US$40 000 purse, which has 15 entries.

Former Castle Tankard winner A King Is Born is also in the race and so is Madigan who can win this big race.

Equina underlined her dominance in the top local races after she cantered to a win in the OK Grand Challenge at Borrowdale.

Zimbabwean jockey Karl Zechner is once again expected to hold the straps and the partnership may give the Amy Bronkhorst yard another major win this season.

The running is the third of the Borrowdale Big Three and the first race will be off at 12:20pm, while the last and main race will be off at 4pm.

The programme will begin with the FBC Maiden Juvenile Plate over 1 600m and followed by the Telecel Zimbabwe Maiden Plate, while the Eldorado Game Ranch Maiden Plate will be third race.

The Republic Cup will also see the Air Zimbabwe Merit Rated 70 handicap and the Catercraft Novice Plate as Race Four and Five, while the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe will come before the major one, the Republic Cup, in sixth.
