Gospel star Erica Campbell is catching heat online after celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary just as news of her sister Tina Campbell’s divorce began making headlines.
The gospel singer recently shared that she and her husband, Warryn Campbell, are set to renew their vows as they mark 25 years of marriage. In her post, Erica described the moment as a celebration of “love, family, commitment, and all God has done,” even asking fans to help her find the perfect dress for the occasion.
However, the timing of the announcement raised eyebrows and ruffled some feathers.
Just a day earlier, it was revealed that Tina’s husband, Teddy Campbell, had filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences, according to court documents obtained by “People”.
The couple, who got married on August 12, 2000, have reportedly been separated since June 2024.
The documents also reveal details about their family.
The couple share two children, Santana Campbell, 13, and Glendon Theodore Campbell II, 16.
They also have three adult children, Cierra, Laiah Simone and Meelah Jane, with Cierra being Teddy’s child from a previous relationship. As part of the filing, Teddy has requested child visitation, referred to as “parenting time”, for the two minors. Spousal support has been listed as “for future determination”, and the documents note that the couple do not share any quasi-community property.
Some social media users felt Erica’s post was insensitive, given what her sister is currently going through.
The reactions quickly split the timeline. While some felt the timing was off, others defended Erica, saying she has every right to celebrate her own marriage regardless of what’s happening around her.
“Tina gotta live her life and Erica has to live hers. Just so happens Erica and Warryn’s 25-year-anniversary is now, just as her sister’s divorce is exposed. Is she supposed to not have her vow renewal and feel guilty about still being in love? 25 years is STILL great,” said @avatarstum.
The sisters, who make up the gospel duo Mary Mary, formed in 1998, gained popularity with their early singles “Shackles (Praise You)” and “Walking.” — IOL.
