THE head of the Eswatini parliamentary delegation on sports has described Zimbabwean legislator Innocent Benza as an inspirational man.
Nathi Nsizwa Hlophe, who heads the Eswatini Parliament’s Committee on Sport, Culture and Youth Affairs, made the remarks after watching Benza in action during a league match at Baobab on Saturday.
Herentals lost 0-1 to Ngezi Platinum Stars.
“I was inspired by the way he leads,” said Hlope.
“For him to play with these young lads, despite his position in society, is humility at its best.
“He reduced himself to be just an ordinary player.”
He praised Benza for maintaining a high level of fitness.
“With his age, playing at this level, I think we should applaud him.”
He commended Benza’s commitment to community engagement, saying leaders who actively participate in grassroots activities set a positive example for the younger generation.
“Involving yourself with the community is one good thing.
“I want to believe that even the young generation is inspired by what he’s doing,” he said.
Benza thanked the Eswatini delegation for the compliments, saying age should never be a barrier to remaining active.
“Age is nothing but a number. As long as you remain disciplined, look after your health and stay committed, you can continue to participate and inspire others regardless of your age.”
Benza, who serves on Zimbabwe’s Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, also welcomed the growing relationship between the Zimbabwean and Eswatini parliamentary committees, saying such exchanges strengthened cooperation and promoted sports diplomacy between the two countries.
“We are delighted by the cordial relations that exist between our two parliamentary committees.
“Sport is a powerful tool for bringing people together, allowing us to exchange ideas, strengthen cooperation and build lasting friendships.
“We look forward to deepening this partnership for the benefit of our two countries,” he said.
