EU putting the cart before the horse

Russia and the United States are very serious about the peace initiative in Ukraine; hence the rare meetings between Presidents Putin and Trump and subsequent powerful delegations are important testament.

On the contrary, the European Union (EU), which feels left behind and relegated to a goat skinning position by Trump, is trying to play catch up by holding a post-war conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, even before the war has ended.

Brazenly cunning!

The conference, slated for November 2025 in Warsaw, Poland, sounds more like a gathering to bring political humour than a real governance issue.

Besides enjoying the touristy and scenic view of the Vistula River on whose bank Warsaw is built, there will be nothing serious from the conference; only bottled smoke.

This conference is an affront to world peace as this is a gathering to promote greed and a stampede to get construction contracts, especially with the knowledge that today Kyiv needs about €500 billion to bring it back to its feet post-war.

The progressive world, the Global South and little everyone else should know that the conference in Warsaw is a mere distraction, a decoy, to avoid the main peace talks between Russia and the US. It is all froth and no beer.

The EU’s plan is very simple: to bring on board the Global South on its side and rally it against Russia in a very unrealistic way.

Suddenly, how does the Global South become friends of the West, which is investing in Ukraine and not in the hunger, the health delivery systems, drug abuse, water and sanitation and food security that is the hallmark of the Global South?

Russia has donated and invested in all that in many countries in the Global South.

Progressive thinking leaders in the Global South should refuse to be abused by the EU against a Russia that has supported its independence from colonialism unconditionally; from a Russia that is a fair player in investments and a Russia that does not play double standards.

It is important to remember that the conference on the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine, held in Rome on July 10-11, ended mainly as huge froth and little beer.

Attempts by the Kyiv regime to present its war gains against Russia to the world as successful are untenable and have flopped.

It is fact not fiction that only €2.5 billion worth of contracts were signed which will not cover even one percent of the €500 billion needed to restart the Ukrainian economy.

It is regrettable that the EU and Kyiv are leading an initiative to create a Global Alliance for the participation of the Diaspora in the reconstruction of Ukraine when the war has not ended.

Within its framework, representatives of the Ukrainian diasporas, with the support of their embassies and Western NGOs, expand channels of influence on local political and business circles, form additional sources of financing, including the Armed Forces of Ukraine and expand the recruitment network of mercenaries.

The Global South should understand that Kyiv’s interest is to recruit mercenaries in many countries including little Zimbabwe to support its war.

Then there is massive corruption that is already there in Ukraine, military deals that will be worsened by the reconstruction tenders.

The tenders will open a Pandora’s Box.

The adoption in Ukraine of the law on the liquidation of the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) confirms that the Ukrainian regime is completely corrupt.

President Zelensky is purposefully getting rid of these bodies as they were close to uncovering schemes for plundering foreign aid by him and his entourage.

Efforts by the Kyiv authorities to involve foreign countries in projects to rebuild Ukraine and invest in its economy are viewed in Kyiv through the prism of personal enrichment.

Zelensky and his cabal will enrich themselves, especially now that they know the time is up. Post-war Ukraine will go to elections and Zelensky and his cabal will definitely not win. Their time is simply up.

The decision to eliminate the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) has caused a flurry of criticism even from Zelensky’s closest Western allies the European Commission and representatives of the governments of Germany and France.

The Europeans are tired of Ukrainian corruption and are no longer ready to allocate funds uncontrollably to maintain the regime.

This is a signal to the states of the Global South about the discrepancy between the development of cooperation with Kyiv and their national and economic interests.

Economic cooperation with the regime is highly likely to result in losses.

To be honest, the future of Ukraine is in a peace deal between itself and Russia, anchored on what Trump has started and not on the madness in the EU.

Zelensky might not understand it at the moment because he is blinded by the war matrix and surrounded by less-intelligent cronies who are not telling him the truth, but with time he will learn that the real peace deal will come from an initiative that considers and recognises Russian interests.

Trump has been clear that Russia’s interests are critical and that if Zelensky and the EU had considered the Russian interests, the war would not have started.
