Even a prisoner has rights too

A MBARE man, who is serving time in jail, has sought a protection order against his brother-in-law, accusing him of stealing his property.

Finish Nhenda claims to have taken care of Tafadzwa Nyabvuri when he was in need, but he was now stealing his rabbits and his tenant’s property.

Nhenda told the Harare Civil Court yesterday that his brother-in-law, Nyabvuri, was a lazy, ungrateful person and a  thief.

“I took care of him when he was on the verge of dying with no one to assist him, but he is so ungrateful and is now stealing my rabbits and my tenant’s property because I am in jail.

“I want him out of my house before I am released from prison because I don’t want to fight with him.

“I once advised him to look for a job, but he resorted to stealing and spreading false claims about me.

“He is the reason I am in prison,” said Finish.

Tafadzwa, in response, claimed that Finish assaulted him several times.

“He is the aggressor, and I’m the victim of his violent acts.

“We stay on opposite sides of the house and I don’t know why he is complaining because we rarely meet each other,” said Tafadzwa.

Magistrate Tamara Chibindi granted Finish’s application and ordered Tafadzwa not to enter his brother-in-law’s side of the house.

She also advised Finish to seek an eviction order if he wants Tafadzwa out of the house.
