BULAWAYO and Harare are bracing for another fireworks-filled DeMbare versus Bosso showdown as Dynamos and Highlanders renew their bitter rivalry at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday.
Football legend and former Dynamos midfielder Elvis Chiweshe says these matches are the biggest football deal in the country. He claims even the weather seems to obey the fixture’s drama.
“Even the weather would change all of a sudden. You come out of the dressing room and as you enter the field and look at Soweto, you see the weather changing. Even in Harare, the atmosphere would be something else for us as players and the fans. That match is big and sadly today’s generation does not seem to take it the way we looked at the fixture and just playing for those two teams that make Zimbabwe football,” said Chiweshe, who holds a Caf B coaching diploma and is currently out of work.
He added that media build-up would push players to the limit. “Even the media build-up would be something else, pushing us to the limit with the write-ups,” said Chiweshe.
Last week the giants drew 1-1 but pride is on the line in what is already being called a final before the final. Both clubs, haunted by relegation fears, know there is more at stake than points. Fans will be watching every pass, tackle and goal as Zimbabwe football’s most electric fixture lights up the nation.
