With the Easter holiday just ended, gospel musician Everton Mlalazi, has dropped visuals for his song Baba Ndiri Mwana Wenyu (“Father I am Your Child), as a way of inspiring Christians to reflect on God’s forgiveness.
The song, which features the Harare MUMC Choir (Vabvuwi), is part of Mlalazi’s “In The Presence: Great God” album, released earlier this year. It is a powerful, modern, soul-stirring rendition of a classic Methodist hymn (Hymn 116).

The song is fundamentally a prayer of repentance and humility. It draws inspiration from the biblical parable of the Prodigal Son. Its lyrics depict a believer coming before God, acknowledging their flaws and sins, and asking for a place back in the Father’s house. It also emphasises that no matter how far one wanders or how many mistakes are made, God’s grace is sufficient to welcome a repentant heart back home.

Baba Ndiri Mwana Wenyu has garnered 18 000 views on YouTube within 24 hours of its release, a sign that its message has a great appeal to a lot of Gospel music followers.
Mlalazi described the project as a song of divine and mercy, which God always shows to those who seek Him.
“In our brokenness, we come. In humility, we cry. In surrender, we find mercy. This is more than just a song, as it is a prayer. It’s a deep call for forgiveness and a reminder that God’s grace is still available to us all.
“As we celebrate the Easter season, I pray that this song ministers to one’s heart, and draw them closer to our Father,” said Mlalazi.
Meanwhile, Mlalazi will be taking his “Great God Tour” on local and international stages, as a way of not only delivering a top-tier live production, but also to create a sacred space where communities can gather and celebrate their faith together.
