A FORMER commando yesterday appeared in court after he was found in possession of his army uniform, two years after his discharge.
Tinotenda Tsveture pleaded guilty to the charge before Mbare magistrate, Rangarirai Gakanje, who remanded him in custody to June 29. The State, led by Zebediah Bofu, opposed his bail. Tsveture also had an outstanding warrant of arrest, issued on September 9, 2021, which was used to deny him bail.
“The accused is not a proper candidate for bail since he failed to present himself in a previous (case) CRB5370/19, there is no guarantee that he will come back to court,” submitted Bofu.
It is the State’s case that officers from the Military Police received a tip-off that Tsveture was in possession of an army regalia and a search was conducted at his house in Southerton.
The officers were able to recover an army beret, belt and uniform before the matter was reported to the police, leading to Tsveture’s arrest.
The State indicated that it was ready for trial and two witnesses − Cosmas Mwale and Daniel Mudenda − will lead the State’s case.
