Ex-Chief Magistrate Justice Mandeya dies

FORMER Chief Magistrate, Honourable Justice Herbert Mandeya, has died.

Justice Mandeya passed on in Harare yesterday.

In a statement today, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) paid tribute to Justice Mandeya in a condolences message.

“The Chief Justice of Zimbabwe and chairperson of the Judicial Service Commission Honourable Justice Luke Malaba; the Judicial Service Commissioners; the Senior Judge of the Adminstrarive Court; and all members of the Judicial Service would like to express their deepest condolences to the Mandeya family on the death of Retired Adminstrative Court Judge Honourable Justice Herbert Mandeya at Westend Hospital in Harare on October 4,” reads the statement.

Mourners are gathered at 339 Gletwin Road in Gletwin Harare.

Adds the statement: “Justice Mandeya was appointed Judge of the Adminstrative Court on May 26 2009, a position he held until his retirement in 2024. Justice Mandeya was sworn in as a magistrate in 1988 and rose through the ranks to become Regional Magistrate in April 1998. He served as the Chief Magistrate of Zimbabwe from 2005 to 2009 before his elevation to the Adminstrative Court bench.”

Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
