residential stand.
Marumahoko then  acting mayor and Gotami who was the council housing committee chairperson were arrested recently on allegations of conniving with Joseph Wise (33) a debt collector in the municipality’s security department to sell a stand in a buffer zone.

The two were remanded out of custody to February 6, 2013 for trial when they appeared before magistrate Mr Fani Nyakudya.

Allegations against the three are that on September 19 the three misrepresented to one Lovemore Mabowe that they could sell him stand number 18129 in Rujeko suburb which belonged to Chinhoyi municipality and reserved as a buffer zone.

Mr Mabowe paid US$1 900 as part payment and promised to pay the balance of US$200 later. He managed to pay US$150 in subsequent days. The stand was said to belong to Clr Gotami after getting it from the State through the Ministry National Housing and Social Amenities.

However, investigations later revealed that the stand was non-existent and that the ministry “issuing office” had no jurisdiction as it belonged to the Chinhoyi municipality.
The three were arrested and now await trial.

Prosecutor Mr Lucky Dube appeared for the State and intends to produce the general plan for Rujeko suburb as exhibit to prove infringement.
