Ex-DCC members to be reassigned

Zanu-PF spokesperson Cde Rugare Gumbo said the dissolution of the DCCs did not mean that members of the organ had been expelled.

“The national political commissar (Cde Webster Shamu) presented a report on Cde (Didymus) Mutasa’s visit to all the provinces to advise them that the DCCs have been disbanded.

“The Politburo felt that the disbandment of the DCCs was not a punitive action,” he said.

Cde Gumbo said the Politburo noted that some DCC members had been misled and acted against the principles of the party.

He said the party would find ways to rehabilitate them.

Cde Gumbo said the party had since charged Cde Shamu with looking into how the DCC members could be absorbed into other party structures.

“Politburo advised the political commissar to produce a circular informing the DCC members that they have not been expelled from the party and that the party is looking into how they can be incorporated in its structures,” Cde Gumbo said.

Announcing the dissolution of the DCCs in June, President Mugabe said they were created to coordinate the management of party structures, yet they made things more difficult.

“We have experienced quite a lot of commotion, fighting for places in regard to positions in the DCCs and therefore we have been looking at what is happening and we discussed that in the Politburo. We are worried the DCC has become a weapon used to divide the party,” he said.

The Zanu-PF leadership disbanded the DCCs after realising they had become an instrument of division in the party. This followed reports of imposition of candidates during DCC elections, especially in Masvingo and Manicaland provinces.

Some influential Zanu-PF members were allegedly manipulating the DCCs and causing divisions in the revolutionary party.

Following the dissolution of the DCCs, Zanu-PF dispatched a high-powered delegation led by Cde Mutasa to all provinces to explain the party’s decision.

Provincial structures now play a pivotal role in the coordination of party activities.
