Ex-freedom fighter Lovemore Ndlovu dies

He was 55.

Family spokesperson Mr Elliot Ndlovu said Cde Ndlovu, whose pseudo name was Thabane Nhliziyo, died at his home in Pumula South, Bulawayo, on Thursday after succumbing to prostate cancer.

He described his brother as a hardworking and humble man.

“Lovemore was a uniting figure in the family and worked hard to educate his children.”
Mr Ndlovu said his brother would be buried tomorrow at Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre.

“His burial will take place on Sunday at Nkulumane Provincial Heroes Acre. The church service will start at 9am at his home in Pumula South and then people will proceed to the Heroes Acre,” said Mr Ndlovu.

Cde Ndlovu was born on 10 January 1957 at Manama Hospital in Gwanda District and did his primary education at Esigodini Primary School.

In 1973 he was employed at Metal Box and worked there until December 1974. He joined the armed struggle in Zambia via Botswana.

In Zambia he was taken to Mutentere location and then transferred to Mboroma where he met Zanla and Frolizi forces under the umbrella of the ANC.

In 1976 he transferred to Tanzania where he underwent military training at Morogoro.

He crossed into the country in 1977 and operated in the Hurungwe area up to 1979 when he went to

Assembly Point Romeo in Chinhoyi. He then joined the Zimbabwe National Army in 1980 and was demobilised in 1982.

Cde Ndlovu was a member of District Six War Veterans Association in Pumula where he held the post of deputy secretary until the time of his death.

His is survived by wife and five children.

Mourners are gathered at house number 21526 in Pumula South.
