FOR bashing his ex-wife after suspecting that she was seeing other men backfired for a Dangamvura man when he was ordered to pay $100 fines or alternatively serve two months imprisonment by a Mutare magistrate. Appearing before senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura, Mike Blessing Mareya (30) of House Number N518, Dangamvura pleaded guilty to assault charges as defined in Section 137 of the Criminal Law, (Codification and Reforms) Act.

Mr Fletcher Karombe appeared for the State. The court heard that on January 27, Mareya assaulted his ex-wife, Sandra Sauna, after seeing her coming from her friend’s apartment.

“Mareya saw Sauna coming from her friend’s place of residence and threatened to kill her with a knife suspecting that she was coming from seeing her boyfriend.

“He assaulted her before dragging her into a commuter omnibus while accusing her of adultery,” said Mr Karombe. Sauna sustained injuries on her face.

In defence, Mareya told the court that he acted out of anger. “I was overwhelmed with anger, Your Worship. I erred,” said Mareya.

Mrs Chiundura advised him to control his temper whenever he found himself in a difficult situation.

“Learn to control your anger Mr Mareya because crime does not pay, you risk being incarcerated,” she said.
