A FORMER nurse from Hob-house high-density suburb allegedly turned his house into a private clinic and practised without a licence.
Viar Musa (48) appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Poterai Gwezhira and pleaded not guilty to selling medicines to people without a licence.
The court heard that Musa, who was once employed as a nurse, was selling medicine to people in Hobhouse illegally. Musa said he did not sell medicine to people, but helped people by giving them medicines.
“I deny the charge of selling medicine illegally, Your Worship, but I do not deny having the medicine. As a person who lives in a community with others I would not fold my hands and watch people suffer when I can help. I helped people who are now home-based who have been discharged from hospitals and in return these people would pay me.
“I have the medicine that I have received from people who would have been advised to change their medication by their doctors. Police officers who arrested me can even testify that the medicines that they have confiscated have people’s names,” said Musa.
Asked why he was doing that, Musa said he was practising what he knows best so that he could take care of his three wives and 12 children.
“When I discovered that I might end up in trouble by what I was doing, I decided to relocate to Mutambara where no one knows me because I had no guts to turn people away who would have approached me,” he said.
The matter was adjourned to November 3 for trial.
