A former Zimpapers and Forestry Commission board member, Mrs Kachingwe was born in the Tandi area of Rusape in 1936. She went to Dowa and St Annes Goto
Primary Schools and Goromonzi High School.
She was the first black woman to be enrolled at the University College of Rhodesia, now the University of Zimbabwe, in 1957.
Mrs Kachingwe was appointed secretary for Information, Posts and Telecommunications in 1987. Before that, she was the deputy secretary in the Ministry of Community Development and Women’s Affairs.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
She is survived by her husband, Joe, three children and five grandchildren.
