Ex-Urban groover forms church

A former urban grooves artiste who was part of the genrea��s pioneers in the early 2000s is going strong with his church.

Peter Harold Kapala (37) formed a church named Sanctified House of Prayer for All Nations (Shop).

The church opened its doors two years ago in Zvimba, Mashonaland West province.

At the moment they hold their church services in a classroom at Kutama Day High School.

Kapala calls himself a servant of God and is assisted by two pastors.

a�?When God visited me, he revealed that I have many gifts and would show me the appropriate title one day. For now I am called a servant of God although some call me Brother Peter,a�? he said.

Brother Peter is known for deliverance, prophecy and counselling.

a�?I was not interested in church things, but on 15 June 2004 I had a visitation from God. The voice spoke to me saying I should desist from peddling drugs, taking alcohol and accept God as the personal saviour of my life,a�? he said.

He has a bad past.

a�?I couldna��t sleep without having sex; I was an addict. The spirit of sexual immorality was affecting me significantly. I slept with more than 200 girls,a�? he said.

At the end of November 2009 he felt he had to stop his sinful way of living. As such he approached a pastor to pray for him.

a�?I attended a church service on a Sunday at Zaoga and a pastor prayed for me. I was delivered and my life changed,a�? he said.

But it was not easy to make a radical change in life.

a�?I would go to church slightly drunk. I would even hold shows at different churches drunk but people wouldna��t notice it,a�? he said.

Most of the mushrooming men of the cloth have spiritual fathers but Kapala doesna��t have one.

a�? I dona��t have a spiritual father but I admire Prophet TB Joshua the general overseer of Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN),a�?he said.

As the founder and leader of Shop, did brother Peter receive any training?

a�?When God visits and you receive a calling from him, all things fall into place. It was a miracle because as I was walking in the streets Prophet Blessing Chiza of Eagle Life Assembly met me and prophesied that I would form a church and become a great man of God,a�? he added.

Chiza was to later sponsor him to undergo biblical training at Eagle Life Bible School where he attained a certificate in Bible studies.

In his past life on the scene he was known as a�?Guns Wase Ghettoa�?. His crew was known as Hound Pound Riders.

They released the chart-topping single Etha Majita.

During the height of his musical career, he also collaborated with Mafriq.

In 2005 he came up with a gospel album entitled Turning Point which marked his new found Christian faith.

After a long hiatus, he released another gospel album New Establishment in 2014 which was his last album.
