“When Macheso and his band went on holiday they had agreed to start recording the album in January.
“But due to the departure of Nyazanda everything was derailed, as Macheso did not have an immediate replacement,” said the source.
It is alleged that Nyazanda left Mberikwazvo after a salary dispute with his paymaster.
“Nyazanda left Mberikwazvo after the management had refused to review his salary.
“During their last negotiations Nyazanda tried to negotiate with the management, but they told him that he was free to leave the band and search for greener pastures with other bands,” said the source.
In an interview, Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager, William Tsandukwa, said they had recruited a new team to replace those members who had left.
“The departure of Nyazanda affected us since we were about to record, but we have since replaced the members who left,” he said.
Tsandukwa said Nyazanda’s replacement was already rehearsing on the new songs that they were about to record.
“Fans must not be worried with the departure of some of our band members, as we have recruited another powerful team.
“The guitarist that we got is working on the new songs that will be on our new album,” he said.
Tsandukwa said he was not sure when the album would be ready.
“We want to produce quality music so we are not going to rush ourselves in releasing this album,” he said.
Nyazanda left Orchestra Mberikwazvo together with dancer Franco ‘Slomo’ Dhaka.
Macheso is not the only musician who lost some of his band members, during the festive holiday as Sulumani Chimbetu also lost his. There are reports that Peter “Young Igwee’ Moyo was also battling to keep Shiga Shiga and Spencer Kumbuyani in his camp.
