WITHIN a nation where young people are increasingly the driving force for development, Harare-based Natalie Tanyaradzwa Manhoko has emerged as a passionate advocate for her community. With a strong desire to create a better Zimbabwe, Natalie is not only a leader in her own right, but also a source of inspiration for many young people aspiring to make a difference.
Contesting for the role of Madam President in the Model Parliament Zimbabwe, organised by Young Minds Africa, the 25-year-old embodies the ambition and determination needed to reshape her country’s future.
Model Parliament Zimbabwe is an initiative aimed at empowering young people to engage in democratic processes, develop leadership skills, and contribute to policy making. It simulates parliamentary proceedings, providing participants with hands-on experience in debating, negotiation, and decision-making.

Organisations like Young Minds Africa are involved in running such programmes, often targeting young women to increase female representation in politics and foster a deeper understanding of political processes. The initiative also aligns with broader government policies focused on youth empowerment, particularly in entrepreneurship, education, and civic engagement.
From a young age, Natalie was drawn to leadership.
“I was in leadership roles since primary level and I enjoyed being a leader and having a voice,” she recalls.
Inspired by her mother — a hardworking and independent woman — Natalie learned the values of resilience and determination early on.
“Her determination and resilience have shaped my values and driven me to pursue a career in politics,” she said.
Natalie’s educational journey has been instrumental in her development as a future leader. She pursued a Diploma in International Communication, Diplomacy, and NGOs at the Christian College of Southern Africa (Ccosa) to equip herself with the necessary knowledge for her political career.

“I pursued this diploma to gain a deeper understanding of global politics, diplomacy, and international relations. This knowledge will enable me to effectively represent Zimbabwe’s interests on the global stage and foster meaningful collaborations,” she said.
Looking ahead, Natalie is eager to continue her education by applying for a degree that will deepen her understanding of governance and public policy.
“I believe this education will equip me with the skills to navigate complex international issues and develop innovative solutions for Zimbabwe’s development,” she said.
As she prepares for the Model Parliament competition, Natalie is already formulating her vision for the country.
“As Madam President, I will advocate for policies that prioritise education, healthcare, and economic empowerment,” she outlined.
Her focus will be on initiatives that promote youth development, women’s empowerment, and sustainable growth.
“My vision is to create a Zimbabwe that’s prosperous, inclusive, and just for all citizens to be able to live decent lives, with my first policy being to put the people first.”
Recognising the importance of youth involvement in politics, Natalie believes that young leaders can significantly influence decision-making processes.
“Young people’s involvement in diplomacy and politics can bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and energy to decision-making processes,” she said.
By engaging the youth, she aims to ensure that their voices are heard, thereby shaping policies that reflect their needs and aspirations.
“By involving young people, we can create a more inclusive and representative government,” she said.
However, she is also aware of the challenges young leaders face in the political landscape.
“Young leaders may face challenges such as lack of experience, limited resources, and scepticism about their abilities,” Natalie noted.
To combat these hurdles, she plans to implement mentorship programmes and capacity-building initiatives to empower her peers.
“I will also engage with young people through social media and community outreach programmes to understand their concerns and ideas,” she said.
Natalie’s entrepreneurial spirit further complements her leadership ambitions. She believes that entrepreneurship plays a crucial role in empowering young people. Entrepreneurship enables youth to create jobs, drive innovation, and address community challenges.
“It provides them with skills, confidence, and economic independence. By supporting entrepreneurship, we can unlock the potential of young people and create a more dynamic and resilient economy,” she said.
