A SEARCH party led a family to the gory site of their loved oneas body being devoured by a crocodile.

This happened in Chihata Village under Chief Reya of Silobela.

The late George Chiyangwaas brother, Regis, said his brother had left home on a fishing expedition.

a?George went fishing on 6 November by Exchange Dam at the head of Gweru River. When he didnat return home we became suspicious and launched a manhunt the following day,a? he said.

George was a well known fisherman in the community and most villagers knew his favourite spot.

They headed to the area only to be greeted by a croc feasting on a body.

a?We spotted a huge crocodile holding a chunk of meat. When we drew closer we saw that it was his remains being eaten,a? said Regis.

Having positively identified the remains they reported the matter to the police.

On seeing the family approaching, the crocodile is said to have plunged into the river.

The family went on to bury the remains at the family grave site.

Chief Reya whose jurisdiction the area falls under confirmed the incident and called on the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority to set up camps manned by rangers in and around his area where crocodiles are said to be causing havoc killing villagersa cattle.
