AN ex-prison officer allegedly appointed herself executor to the multi-million dollar estate belonging to a descendant of colonialism chief Cecil John Rhodes.
Brian James Rhodes, who is a descendant of Cecil John Rhodes, left behind a multi-million-dollar estate.
The suspect, Elizabeth Parirenyatwa Mucheche, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded her in custody.
The State applied to proceed in terms of the Mental Health Act on the basis that Mucheche was exhibiting signs of mental instability.
Magistrate Mangosi ordered the Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Services to ensure that she is examined by two mental health practitioners before her next remand date.
Allegations are that Mucheche, who is not related to Rhodes, or legally appointed as an executor of the deceased estate, generated a fake power of attorney.
She claimed it was signed by Anne Rhodes who appointed her as an executor.
Anne was married to Brian Hames Rhodes before his death in 2006.
The power of attorney was, however, signed after Anne had already passed away.
This provided clear evidence that it was not signed by her.
Mucheche is also accused of threatening Brian Murphy after he reported the perjury case. She allegedly threatened to kill him for getting her arrested.
Takudzwa Jambawo appeared for the State.
