A huge haul of fake golf products bearing the brand names of a number of top manufacturers, including TaylorMade, Ping and Titleist, have been seized in multiple locations across China, yielding 15 arrests.
A report on golfweek.usatoday.com detailed how Shanghai police conducted the “largest-ever raid” simultaneously in four cities and seized a trove of 120 000 items, including counterfeit golf clubs, club heads, shafts, grips and bags.
Kristin Strojan, legal counsel trademark and brand protection at TaylorMade Golf, praised Chinese police for carrying out the operation during the pandemic.
“Counterfeiters have been taking
advantage of the current situation and counterfeit listings have become more rampant on the internet,” she said in a statement.
“We never stopped watching them even during these challenging times and continue to work with authorities worldwide to target online counterfeit sellers aggressively.”

A working group set up in 2004 by a number of the top manufacturers to help combat counterfeiting assisted the police in the raids.
Since it was established, the group has helped shut down more than 1 500 websites and seize more than two million fake golf products. — SCMP Sport.
